In 2023, a young British woman went on vacation to Barbados in the Eastern Caribbean. However, she ended up returning with more than just memories: she brought with her a new best friend .
While enjoying paradise with her boyfriend, the young woman noticed a caramel-colored dog wandering the streets.
Skinny, infested with fleas and ticks, but so friendly and full of life, the puppy soon aroused his affection.
The little dog had large, pointy ears, which made her resemble a small kangaroo. Inspired by the character Roo from Winnie the Pooh, the young woman nicknamed her Roo Roo.
Despite receiving food from local residents, who usually feed stray animals, the cub was extremely thin, with visible bones.
With a heavy heart, the tourist began to slowly approach the dog, leaving food and water outside the house she rented.
Over time, Roo Roo began to wait for her new friend every day, sleeping under the house and following her everywhere.
All the young woman had to do was go out and come back from a walk for the little dog to emerge from the bushes, wagging her tail and snuggling up next to her.
The connection between the two grew stronger every day. But the trip was coming to an end, and the British woman couldn’t imagine Roo Roo alone, wandering the streets.
When he looked for a shelter to rescue her, he found that they were all full. The thought of leaving her behind was unbearable.
“She was just a 12-week-old baby,” she said on her Instagram , where she told the whole story of the little dog.
Determined to change Roo Roo’s fate, the young woman decided to take her home to the United Kingdom. But transporting an animal from one country to another wasn’t simple, much less cheap.
Without many resources and no idea where to start, she started an online fundraiser to cover expenses.
The mobilization was successful and, with the help of several people, the plan began to come to fruition.
From then on, the young woman began to rush to get everything she needed: veterinary appointments, parasite treatment, vaccinations, microchipping, and documentation.
However, one detail almost ruined everything: to enter the UK, the rabies vaccine needed to be administered at least 21 days before travel. The problem was that the young woman’s flight was exactly one day before that deadline .
But fate seemed to be on their side. A friend of the British woman was returning home exactly one day after her and offered to take Roo Roo on board.
So the dog traveled separately, arriving in the UK shortly after her new owner.
The reunion took place at London airport. Despite the long journey, Roo Roo arrived in high spirits, ready for her new life.
“I was so worried that the trip would be stressful for her, but this tough little dog was still happy and wagging her tail,” she said.
Now in his forever home, Roo Roo has flourished. His coat is shiny, his body strong and healthy, but his adorable pointy ears remain the same.
Months later, her guardian shared a moving video showing the little girl’s transformation.
“I always tell people I adopted a puppy, but really… I think she adopted me!” she wrote.
Roo Roo not only found a home, but also a family and unconditional love.
For the British woman, her 2023 vacation will never be forgotten. Not only because of the paradisiacal scenery, but because it was there that her life changed forever when she met her four-legged best friend.
“I will be grateful for this bundle of joy that came into my life until the day I die! Every time I look at her, I feel so much love that I can’t
