As the founder of the Paws Holding on to Life Association, Buket Özgünlü has dedicated her life to rescuing and caring for abandoned dogs in Turkey.

However, dogs with disabilities have always held a special place in Buker’s heart.

“They need us more. I try to take care of them as much as possible,” she said in an interview with The Dodo .

With 560 dogs in their care , most of them have some form of paralysis.

Without the help of Buket and his team, these dogs certainly wouldn’t have survived. But now these puppies enjoy a new chance in a loving home.

According to veterinarian Barri J. Morrison, in an article written on PetMD , when cared for, dogs with paralysis can adapt and live well, even with the condition.

“With proper care from an attentive owner, they can live a long, happy and healthy life,” says an excerpt from the text.

The sanctuary is a peaceful and happy place, with plenty of space for the dogs to play and explore in their wheelchairs.

But Buket wanted to go further.

Recently, she came up with a brilliant idea to add even more joy to her pups’ lives: a “train” so they can explore new sights and sounds beyond the sanctuary’s boundaries.

Using barrels with wheels tied together in a line, Buket created a unique means of transportation for his dogs with reduced mobility.

Now these pups can enjoy little adventures around the city in style and safety.

“I’ve been thinking about doing a project like this for a long time,” Buket shared with The Dodo. “I’m so glad I did.”

And it’s not just the dogs who are happy about this new addition. The dog train attracts curious glances and warm smiles from people nearby, who marvel at the puppies’ joy as they pass by.

“A lot of people like it, and that makes me even happier,” Buket said, sharing the joy this initiative brings not only to the dogs, but also to the community.

For her and her team, seeing the dogs happy and enjoying life is the greatest reward for their hard and dedicated work.

Despite the challenges and lack of recognition, the sight of smiling faces and wagging tails is enough to renew your determination to provide a better life for these dogs in need.

“I know very well how much they need this,” reflects Buket, showing that love and dedication can really make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
