For Danielle Vanos and her family in Ontario, Canada, mornings are a loving routine.

Before leaving for daycare, her two-year-old daughter makes a point of saying goodbye to Kobe, the five-year-old golden retriever who has taken on the role of a patient big brother.

The scene shared on Tik Tok by @airbudkobe begins as naturally as ever. The girl approaches the dog, strokes its head, and gives it a hug.

Her mother then asks if she’ll kiss him goodbye. Instead of kissing him, she wants Kobe to kiss her first.

What unfolds is a delicate negotiation of affection. The mother, sensing her daughter’s insecurity, doesn’t force her. She acts as an intermediary and suggests that her daughter bring her face closer, but the little girl refuses.

Seeing that shyness was a barrier, the mother changes tactics and speaks directly to the dog.

“Kobe, she wants a kiss,” she says, pointing to her daughter.

Kobe, who had been watching everything calmly, leaned in and gently licked the girl’s face. The reaction was instantaneous.

The barrier of shyness dissolves, and a pure, radiant smile takes over the child’s face. The goal was achieved not through persistence, but through understanding and the help of a loyal friend.

In an interview with Newsweek magazine , Danielle Vanos explained that this was the first time her daughter asked for a kiss back.

“Both she and I give Kobe a hug and a kiss before we leave for daycare and work in the morning, but she usually doesn’t ask for a kiss back from Kobe. She’s gotten a lot of kisses from him since she was born, but she usually doesn’t ask for them,” she said.

The close relationship between the two has been a source of joy for the family.

“It’s been so exciting to watch their bond grow over the past two years,” Danielle said.

However, she emphasizes that this safe coexistence is the result of conscious work. The family invested in training and safety measures to ensure everyone’s well-being.

“Sometimes he doesn’t know his own size, so we did a lot of training and implemented safety measures like leashes and baby gates for everyone’s safety, especially in the first year,” he explained to Newsweek.

After being shared, the video of Kobe and his “little sister”‘s farewell went viral and garnered 1.4 million views, 141,000 likes, and 133 comments.

“Kobe looked like he wanted to kiss her, but was afraid to make the first move,” one user commented.

“Kobe is the sweetest big brother,” a second added.

“You’re raising a wonderful child. I love seeing so much kindness towards animals,” added a third.

This isn’t the only time of day when children and pets interact. In a recent video, the mother shares 8 things that only parents of dogs and small children will understand…

1. They fight over toys every day.

2. Your dog has the patience of a saint.

3. Taking a good photo with both of them looking at each other is almost impossible.

4. Your child will be covered in hair 24/7.

5. Snacks = community property.

6. “Licking” is inevitable.

7. The word “kind” is used 1,000,000 times a day (for both of them).

8. Watching the two of you grow together is one of the best parts of being a parent.

The woman also creates content with the aim of helping other mothers and/or pregnant women to balance time and affection between their babies and their dogs.

“POV: You’re a first-time mom or expectant mother struggling with the idea of dividing your time between your new baby and your four-legged child. Then you found my account,” reads the caption of the video where the baby was newborn.

Golden Retriever is more than a pet, it is an ally in child development

According to the specialist website Golden Meadows Retrievers , the Golden Retriever breed is consistently considered one of the best companions for children, going far beyond just being a playmate. Living with this dog brings direct benefits to child development.

The main reason, according to the publication, is his exceptionally balanced temperament.

Golden Retrievers are known for their calm, gentle, and patient nature , which makes them safe and tolerant of the energy and unpredictability of children.

At the same time, they are active and playful, able to keep up with the little ones and encourage a healthier and more dynamic lifestyle.

Living with a Golden Retriever every day teaches practical and valuable lessons. Among the main benefits cited are:

  • Teaching Responsibility: the child learns to care for another living being by participating in tasks such as feeding, walking, and ensuring the dog’s well-being.
  • Development of Empathy: By learning to read the animal’s signals and needs, the child develops greater emotional awareness and compassion.
  • Confidence Building: Teaching your dog basic commands and seeing him obey strengthens your child’s self-confidence and leadership skills.
  • Emotional Support and Companionship: Known for their emotional intelligence, Golden Retrievers offer constant comfort and companionship, helping to alleviate childhood stress and anxiety.

Therefore, choosing a Golden Retriever for a family with children represents not only the arrival of a pet, but a direct investment in the well-being and socio-emotional development of the little ones.
