Pets’ sensitivity to human emotions is both moving and surprising. A video posted on January 20th on Instagram @ruth_fit316 demonstrates just that.
Chloe, a 12-year-old caramel chihuahua, had a charming moment when she tried to comfort baby Parker , the daughter of her owner Ruth Swingler, a nurse and content creator about motherhood and postpartum health.
In the video, Chloe appears deeply concerned about the newborn’s crying. She approaches cautiously, sniffs the air, and observes the little one, as if trying to understand the reason for her distress.
Then, he resorts to an affectionate gesture that is well known to his owner: licks.
This is how he usually shows support on difficult days. This time, he tried the same with his new human sister, but found it wasn’t enough to calm her down.
Parker’s father steps in and picks up the baby, trying to help. Chloe, determined to be a part of the care, jumps up next to him and tries to lean on him, showing she wants to contribute too.
The interaction is as touching as it is amusing. At one point, the Chihuahua walks up to the carrier, sniffs the area, lies down, and appears to be doing an “inspection,” as if checking to see if the environment is suitable for her little sister .
The video’s captions, written with humor, interpret the dog’s thoughts.
“Mom, you better help, I don’t think he knows what he’s doing,” says one of them.
After a few more licks and another check on the baby carrier, Chloe returns to her guardian and seems to approve of the situation.
“See mom, I fixed her. Dad is proud of me, but you better not let this happen again,” the last caption jokes.
The post was a hit on social media and has already accumulated more than 500,000 views, 40,000 likes and 240 comments.
In the video description, Ruth highlighted that it was a very special moment, as it was the first time Chloe showed interest in a baby.
Followers’ favorite part was the careful inspection of the car seat, considered by many to be the cutest part of the recording.

Stories like this reinforce how loyal and attentive dogs are, capable of perceiving emotions and offering comfort even when they don’t understand exactly what’s going on.
Chloe’s genuine affection for Parker shows that love between humans and animals can blossom from the earliest days of life.
