A few months ago, Taylor Meadows, owner of a three-year-old Dalmatian named River, took Summit the kitten into her home to help a local shelter.
Taylor initially took Summit in as a foster home, with no intention of adopting him. However, River forced her to completely change her plans.
Within the first few days, River became attached to the kitten in a unique way, creating a bond so deep that Taylor had no choice: Summit was now part of the family.
Although Taylor loved Summit from the start, it was River who convinced her to make their temporary home her permanent home.
“River can be a nervous girl, but she’s much calmer when Summit is around,” Taylor told Newsweek .
In some situations, Taylor even took Summit along to River’s vet appointments, noticing that the kitten’s company made the dog much more relaxed and confident.
On TikTok, where Taylor shared the daily lives of her inseparable friends, a video illustrating the routine between the Dalmatian and the kitten has already surpassed 2 million views.
The clip shows adorable moments of the two sleeping together, Summit petting River, walking on a leash, and even embarking on stand-up paddleboarding and hiking adventures.
“They are best friends and adventure buddies, and they do everything together,” Taylor said, describing the duo as perfect for exploring the outdoors.
Internet users were moved by the complicity between the two.
“This made me cry with happiness, they’re precious,” one user commented, while another joked: “Spots and stripes go together like peas and carrots.”

Many even pointed out that Taylor would never be able to leave Summit behind, suggesting that, in fact, the kitten was “adopted by the dog”.
This type of adoption, in which the temporary home becomes permanent, is known as a “foster fail” — a “failure” of a temporary home, but one that proves to be a great emotional victory for those involved.
River and Summit’s story is reminiscent of another moving situation shared on social media recently, in which the bond between two dogs led the owner of one of them to make a similar decision.
During a work trip, Kyla Campbell and her dog Chester, a boxer-terrier mix, met Frank, an extremely affectionate stray dog.
Chester and Frank formed a special bond, so much so that Frank followed his canine friend to Kyla’s hotel almost every night. Chester seemed enchanted by his new friend, and Kyla realized she couldn’t separate them.
After verifying that Frank was indeed a stray dog, Kyla adopted him, welcoming him as an official member of the family.
“The first night I took him in, he slept in my bed and didn’t leave my side all night,” Kyla shared.
