In a moving video shared on Instagram , the reaction of an 86-year-old man, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, upon being reunited with his dog Campeiro moved thousands of internet users.
The recording, made by his daughter Andréa Fonseca, shows the moment of reunion between the elderly man and his faithful four-legged friend, Campeiro.
In the caption of the post, Andréa wrote words full of meaning:
“Some memories may fade, but true love never goes away. Dad always loved these little animals; he even had five dogs. Not even Alzheimer’s can take that love away.”

The video highlights how true love can transcend even the effects of a disease as devastating as Alzheimer’s.
In the images, it is possible to see the elderly man’s joy at seeing his dog after a long period of separation.
The reunion was marked by words of affection and nostalgia: “Where’s Campeiro? Where’s Campeiro, old man?” he said, visibly moved.
The elderly man’s joy at finding his dog, who had always been very dear to him, is clear.
He still remembers the importance of the animal in his life, talking about how much he missed his companion.
The fact that he can still recognize the animal, even with the progression of Alzheimer’s, is proof that affective memories can resist time and physical and mental limitations.
Alzheimer’s disease is characterized by the gradual loss of memory and cognitive abilities, affecting both the life of the person diagnosed and that of their family members.
Although the disease causes memory loss and affects cognitive functions, studies suggest that emotional memories, such as affection for family members and pets, can be preserved for longer, as explained on the Cora Senior website .
In this case, the love between the elderly man and his dog is a bond that goes beyond words and moments of forgetfulness, something that illness cannot erase.
The elderly man’s reaction, of course, touched thousands of people who watched the video on social media.
“Some memories may fade, but true love remains. The reaction of my 86-year-old dad, who has Alzheimer’s, upon seeing his dog again after so long proves that some bonds are eternal. The sparkle in their eyes, the spontaneous affection, the connection that words can’t explain… Neither time nor illness can take away what the heart feels,” the daughter wrote in the post.
Published in February, the video had more than 1 million views, 81 thousand likes and hundreds of comments, full of emotion.
Check out some of them:
“How beautiful. My father had Alzheimer’s, and whenever we went to visit him, he would ask about his pets. Beautiful love.”
“Their joy! The best medicine in the world!”
“These little animals teach us so much. Even with Léo’s absence, the love remained, and Campeiro understood that it wasn’t abandonment. The animals’ light and pure souls invigorate us. The video and their connection are beautiful.”
