In early August, Lori Dugas, a resident of Port Charlotte, USA, filmed her baby Caleb and her dog Kahlua in a moment of kindness that the dog showed to the child. The post, shared on TikTok, garnered hundreds of views and comments praising the family dog’s behavior.
Because he has a disability and can’t walk normally like other dogs, Kahlua walks sitting on the ground. And perhaps Caleb wanted to imitate his four-legged friend, as he is seen in the video observing the way the dog moves.
The dog, noticing the baby’s interest, tries to teach him, and gradually Caleb moves on the floor, in a sort of crawling motion, with his leg bent under his body.
In the recording, Lori can be heard encouraging her son to follow in the dog’s footsteps. “Death to him for doing that, Kahlua!”
On her TikTok account – which even bears Kahlua’s name – @kahluasadventure , the video was shared with the caption: “Our paralyzed dog taught the baby to crawl.” Since then, the video has reached over 11 million views. In a previous video, Lori explains that Kahlua had broken his spine after falling from a three-story balcony, and the resulting injury left him paralyzed. Lori temporarily adopted the dog, and after the family adapted to Kahlua’s new routine, she adopted the pet permanently.
“She’s been with us ever since, she’s an amazing addition to our home.”
In another video shared in September, Lori further demonstrates the relationship between best friends Caleb and Kahlua. In the video, the dog is sitting outside Caleb’s playpen crib, and the child, engrossed in the animal, begins to grab an ‘imaginary treat’ from inside the crib and feed it directly to the dog.
The scene perfectly portrays the friendship and trust they have in each other. While Caleb feeds Kahlua his imaginary food, the dog searches the ground for crumbs that aren’t there.
The song that accompanies the video couldn’t be anything other than “You’ve Got a Friend In Me,” a song known for being the theme song of the toys in the 1995 children’s animation, “Toy Story . “
The lyrics include the song: “There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you. We stick together, we can see that. Because you have a friend in me.” This perfectly illustrates the relationship between little Caleb and his dog Kahlua.
