In Santa Fe, Argentina, a story of love and loyalty between a dog and a street cleaner is winning hearts. Manolo, a five-year-old dog, is known throughout the neighborhood.

His routine is marked by patient waiting: every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, Manolo waits on the corner for the collection vehicle to arrive so he can accompany his guardian during the workday.

But recently, a twist brought even more emotion to this story. Pablo, the street cleaner who has shared his days with Manolo for years, suffered an accident and had to leave the streets.

Faithful as ever, the dog continued to wait for his friend. To keep the animal from feeling lonely, César Alarcón, Pablo’s son and also a street cleaner, asked to take over his father’s route.

Thus, Manolo continued to receive company and attention, showing that the friendship between them goes far beyond work.

How it all began

Manolo’s relationship with Pablo began when the dog was still a puppy. According to reports , the dog lived with his former owner, who would often take him for walks around the neighborhood.

As Pablo always talked to the man, Manolo became accustomed to his presence.

With the death of his first owner, the dog began to wander the streets until he found a new role model in Pablo.

“More than once I had to put Manolo in the company cart because he got covered in dirt. Then I had to clean him; he looked like a Milanese,” recalls César, laughing fondly at the situation.

Since then, Manolo has never stopped accompanying the street cleaner on his routines.

The unexpected pause

Pablo’s accident forced him to take a few weeks off work. During this time, he shared his longing: both he and his dog felt his daily absence.

“I haven’t seen Manolo in 21 days, but I’m at peace because my son is taking care of him. The company allowed him to leave the area where he worked to come here. I have to thank the supervisors for that,” Pablo said.

For César, taking on his father’s role was more than a professional responsibility; it was a gesture of love for the dog he considers part of the family.

“He only obeys me and my father, no one else. So I needed to be here so that Manolo wouldn’t feel lost.”

The waiting routine

Anyone passing through the area has become accustomed to seeing Manolo sitting on a street corner, listening to the sound of the garbage cart.

When he recognizes the noise, he runs happily, wagging his tail and following César, as he did with Pablo.

“He doesn’t let go. He’s always leaning against my leg and nudging me with his nose, as if to say: ‘Hey, I’m here,'” says César.

The image of the loyal dog became a symbol of friendship and affection. Neighbors and cleaning colleagues also grew fond of Manolo, who has become part of the neighborhood’s identity.

The bond between father and son

While he recovers, Pablo watches from afar the bond between his son and the dog.

Every day, when César returns home, he is greeted with questions: “How was Manolo? What did he do today?”

For the veteran street cleaner, the animal’s absence is felt like that of a relative. “He’s like a brother to me. More than a dog, he’s part of the family,” he says emotionally.

Cases of animals that do not abandon their owners touch society because they reveal a pure and selfless feeling.

While Pablo recovers, Manolo continues to be cared for by César and continues his routine of accompanying him to work. The dog has become a living example of companionship on the streets of Santa Fe.
