A pit bull named Oscar spent much of his life in an animal shelter, where everyone loved him. However, not having a family he could truly call his own made the two-year-old dog look sad and much older.
Oscar is an American bulldog mix and was surrendered to the Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS) animal shelter located in the United States by his former family.
Moved by the fact that the dog had been abandoned by those who were supposed to protect him, the team did everything they could to help him find a new home.

Less than a year old, Oscar arrived at the shelter with an infected wound on his neck and was completely dirty, having lived outside. After receiving treatment, the dog was put on the adoption list.
Because he was new, everyone believed he would soon find his forever home, but that wasn’t quite what happened.
Days, weeks and months passed and no one showed any interest in him, and that was when he began to feel sad.
“No one was responding to their posts about him,” Rosa Fond, founder and president of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo . “Eventually, everyone forgot about him.”
A year passed, and Miami-Dade Animal Services’ facility was overflowing with animals. The solution to accommodate the new arrivals was to ask Humans and Animals United for help, asking them to house the oldest residents. And they did!

Humans and Animals United doesn’t actually foster dogs, they actually look for temporary homes for the animals they rescue, so when they received the call for help from MDAS, they worked day and night looking for people to care for these little ones.
It was at that moment that Oscar felt what it was like to be with a family! Even though it wasn’t a permanent home, the temporary one would bring him love, security, and comfort—everything he needed.
When he arrived at his new home, the appearance of his face changed!
“He was so happy,” Fond said.
The dog remains in the foster home, learning socialization and obedience. So far, no one has expressed interest in adopting him. But the team hasn’t given up on finding the perfect family for Oscar.
“He deserves a good home,” Fond said. “Someone who will give him lots of love and help him recover from the trauma he’s been through. Someone who will give him lots of love and time to understand that he’s safe.”
We hope this cutie finds his forever home soon!
Another pet who never stopped smiling after being rescued was Smile. Neglected for many years, the stray dog never stopped smiling at her rescuers, showing how happy and grateful she was for being rescued.
