A five-year-old golden retriever named Chi Chi, who passed away on February 4, 2019, received a beautiful tribute last Wednesday, the 15th. The family compiled photos of the day the pet ‘created’ her kissing booth to celebrate Valentine’s Day — Valentine’s Day in the United States and some regions of Europe.
As reported by the news portal ABC 15 Arizona , Arizona couple Richard Howell and Elizabeth Howell adopted the pet in 2016 to save her from the South Korean meat trade. She was found in the trash at a butcher’s shop with her four paws tied together with wire. The butcher deemed her unfit for consumption and left her to die.
Seeing her in that condition left the couple stunned and moved, and they immediately rescued her. When they took her to a veterinary clinic, the doctors informed them that the only way to save her would be to amputate all four of her legs. The owners accepted their advice.

Chi Chi began wearing specially fitted prosthetic paws to make her mobility easier, but she still needed attention. Her limitations didn’t stop her from being a healthy and happy pet, which is why she became a source of inspiration and became a therapy dog.
Realizing how much the dog benefited others, her owner rushed to get Chi Chi certified as a therapy dog. Of course, the pet had to take many tests to be approved, and, determined as she is, she passed them all.
From then on, the little dog began visiting hospitals and working with people who had had a limb amputated, providing them with comfort and encouragement with her presence.
Unfortunately, in 2018, the pet was diagnosed with cancer. According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, it was a highly aggressive tumor located in her nasal cavity. After the diagnosis, the family lived with her for about 11 months before she passed away.
Chi Chi passed away and was never forgotten! The Instagram profile Elizabeth created to show Chi Chi’s daily life now features the daily life of Ellie, Chi Chi’s canine sister who followed in her footsteps and became a therapy dog too.
Between posts, the owner always reminisces about Chi Chi’s significant moments, and Valentine’s Day in 2017 and 2018 was one of them. Check it out:
