Tanggol’s story begins in a heartbreaking place—a junkyard, where a dog was left tied up, exposed to the merciless sun and torrential rain. His body, a mere shadow of what it should have been, was emaciated, and his skin was raw and torn. He had no shelter, no safety, just a world of harsh elements and neglect. His body was nothing but skin and bones, a painful testament to the cruelty he had endured.
A concerned citizen, upon discovering Tanggol’s dire situation, could not stand by in silence. They posted about the dog’s condition, hoping someone would step in to help. The message read, “He’s tied up and already just skin and bones. His skin looks so badly irritated. I’m not even sure if he has an owner.” Those words sparked something in the hearts of those who read them, a sense of urgency to act.
Jun, one of our dedicated rescuers, immediately responded. Without hesitation, Jun rushed to the junkyard where Tanggol had been left to suffer, bringing the dog to safety. Tanggol was then transported to Vetlink Veterinary Clinic, where he would begin his long road to recovery.
At the clinic, the first step was to assess Tanggol’s condition. Thankfully, he tested negative for distemper, a major relief, but the other results were devastating. His blood tests revealed severe anemia, low platelets, and a positive result for Ehrlichia, a tick-borne infection that had been slowly weakening him. To make matters worse, a skin scrape test showed that Tanggol was suffering from Demodex mange, a parasitic infection that caused his skin to become irritated, raw, and painful.
The team at Vetlink wasted no time. They began immediate treatment, starting with a thorough bath to clean Tanggol’s wounded body, followed by the administration of medications, ivermectin, and wound care. Slowly but surely, his wounds began to heal, the pain starting to subside as his body fought to recover. Despite everything he had been through, Tanggol remained remarkably gentle and calm. It was as though he knew he was finally safe, that the nightmare he had endured was coming to an end.
But even as Tanggol’s body began to heal, his fight was far from over. He required continuous medical care, specialized supplements, and the right nutrition to help him regain his strength and recover fully. His journey would be long, and it would take time before he could experience the joy and comfort of a happy, healthy life. But we couldn’t give up on him now. He had already shown such resilience, and he deserved the chance to heal completely, to know love, and to feel safe in a home where he would never again suffer.
