Since he was born, the puppy Deuce has had to overcome a series of challenges that no puppy deserves to face.

Separated from his mother, he was cowardly abandoned in a ditch with two broken legs, which became so severely infected that they had to be amputated.

Defying all odds, Deuce managed to recover with the help of volunteers from a dog shelter in Kentucky (USA) and was welcomed into a loving adoptive family.

After months of physical therapy, the puppy regained his mobility and now plays without needing prosthetics or a wheelchair.

He is cared for by theater professor Domenick Scudera, 55, who lives in Collegeville, Pennsylvania (USA).

Deuce is not the first disabled dog that the professor has taken in: he has two others, Cyrus and Lucky, both with two legs.

Cyrus is a 10-year-old terrier who came from California; he was born without front paws. Lucky, on the other hand, is 6 years old and lost his legs in a car accident in Egypt.

“Deuce is completely mobile and doesn’t need any extra help – he’s amazing,” said Domenick.

Although the little dog only has legs on his right side, he is very strong and stable and can walk and run with the same firmness as any other four-legged dog.

Deuce doesn’t use a wheelchair. It’s amazing how agile and balanced he is, just like any other dog. Along with his siblings, he works as a therapy dog in a children’s ward in Collegeville, giving affection to the children hospitalized there.

They are basically two-legged heroes.

Domenick, known in the city as ‘the guy who adopts two-legged dogs’, adds:

“I trained all three of these dogs to be certified therapy dogs that visit patients weekly at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital (BMRH), which has an amputee clinic.”

I adopted them so I could bring them to inspire patients in hospitals. They are symbols that difficult times can be overcome and that you can thrive on the other side of adversity.

I know they make people feel good and are very inspiring, so I’m happy to be able to share them with the people I know and with the people who follow them on social media.

Of course, they are also my pets. Animals with disabilities are not always easy to find, and I am happy to be able to offer them a loving home.

They completely changed my life for the better. They mean the world to me.

Absolutely gorgeous, isn’t it?
