A dog who lived scared and suspicious was caught crying with emotion after receiving affection from the protector responsible for saving him.

The video, published by the NGO SOS 4 Patas Paraná on August 12, 2024, has already surpassed 7.4 million views

The scene gained widespread attention because it exposed the silent pain of thousands of dogs at risk.

In the case of Curitiba, the story began with a complaint filed at the environmental police station.

The NGO was called to check the location and found the animal visibly weakened.

Although he was standing and had no apparent injuries, he was thin, scared, and showed clear signs of neglect.

In the video, the protector appears to be trying to comfort him with gentle words. “You’re hungry, it’s okay,” she said as she approached.

The dog trembled and hesitated to accept human contact, but little by little he allowed himself to be hugged.

It was at that moment that he cried, as if he understood he was safe. His reaction moved even those present.

According to the NGO, no one was found at the residence during the rescue. Even so, the complaint would continue to be investigated, and those responsible would be summoned.

After being removed from the scene, the dog was taken to a veterinary clinic for examination. The professionals found that, despite his fear, he was physically well and could begin recovery.

At the clinic, his behavior changed. Upon seeing his protector again, he wagged his tail and showed the first signs of trust.

As he was thin and in a new environment, he was given a little outfit to keep him warm and feel more comfortable.

The NGO’s publication highlighted that the animal’s posture indicated a history of violence.

“This dog definitely got beaten up a lot,” the caption read.

The post quickly went viral and mobilized thousands of internet users, who expressed their solidarity with the story.

In the comments, people from different regions of the country shared feelings of outrage and empathy.

“I almost cried. If I worked in animal rescue, I would cry every day,” wrote one user.

Another questioned: “How can anyone harm an animal that doesn’t harm anyone? Such cruelty is unbelievable.”

Some owners also reported experiences with dogs traumatized by violence, highlighting how constant care is essential for them to regain their confidence.

The case reinforces the importance of the work of animal protection organizations. SOS 4 Patas Paraná has already recorded thousands of rescues throughout its history, dealing with abandonment, neglect, malnutrition, and violence.

Each story represents not only a chance for survival, but also an opportunity to rebuild bonds of trust between humans and animals.

Dogs that are victims of abuse can develop deep trauma, reflected in fear, aggression or apathy.

However, with patience, care and respect, it is possible to reverse some of this damage.

The reaction of the dog rescued in Curitiba is an example of this: just a few minutes of affection were enough for him to begin to believe he was no longer in danger.

At the end of the video, the protector made a promise: he would never be hurt again.

Although Brazilian law already provides for punishment for crimes against animals, protection organizations point out that there are still flaws in monitoring and applying penalties.

Meanwhile, NGOs like SOS 4 Patas Paraná continue to play an essential role. In addition to rescue, they work to raise awareness and encourage responsible adoption.

How to Help an Abused Dog Trust Again

According to Veggie Animals, understanding how to gain the trust of a dog that has been abused begins with observation.

More important than trying to uncover every detail of the past, the focus should be on understanding the consequences of the trauma and taking positive action to change your emotions.

An abused dog may have experienced intense fear, stress, and frustration. Common signs include:

  • Insecurity and fear: frequently hiding, refusing objects such as brooms, or being startled by sudden movements.
  • Reactivity or aggression without apparent cause: trying to bite when receiving affection, barking excessively or running away from human contact.
  • Apathy and sadness: lack of emotional bonds, difficulty in creating bonds and distant behavior.

Given this scenario, the recommendation is that the first step is to ensure that the animal does not have pain or physical consequences, with a veterinary evaluation.

Then, it’s essential to provide a space where he feels safe, away from excessive stimulation, until he can relax.

1. Create a space of comfort and safety

The dog needs to have constant access to water, food and a calm environment.

It is not advisable to force immediate contact, introduce too many people or expose the animal to other dogs right away.

Evolution will depend on the time and disposition of each individual.

2. Encourage progressive approaches

Trust is built gradually. In the early days, let the dog be the one to approach you.

Whenever he takes the initiative, the owner can reward him with treats or positive words.

The goal is to associate human presence with pleasant experiences. If there are signs of blocking, avoiding, or aggression, it’s best to seek professional help, as specific techniques may be necessary.

3. Build the bond gradually

The socialization process must be accompanied with patience. Encouraging words, treats, and affectionate gestures help reinforce desired behaviors.

Physical manipulations, such as touching and petting, need to be subtle and gentle, as many dogs can have a bad association with human contact.

According to dog trainer Javier Ruiz of Dog Ventura , the key is to turn every interaction into a positive experience.

Over time, repeating consistent, affectionate actions allows the dog to leave the trauma behind and begin to trust again.
